Webinar on Reshaping the Language Pedagogy: Effective use of Online Tools and Resources in Language Classroom
Center for Language Studies (CLS) organized a webinar about the effective use of online tools and resources in language classroom on November 4, 2021, in Zoom platform. This webinar was conducted by Ms. Tamanna Maqsood. She is a teacher,trainer, researcher with interests across the fields of English language teaching, social justice of education, and narrative methodologies in curriculum. She completed her BA and MA in Linguistics from North South University and her second MA in Education and Society from McGill University. She is the co-founder of ‘English Spire’, A platform for Sustainable English Language Learning.
The facilitator presented the challenges of using technology in communicative language classroom. With the unprecedented advancement of technology and availability of computers, smartphones and internet, the traditional ideas about language teaching and learning have transformed significantly. Both teachers and students can access to a wide range online language learning resources. Keeping the evolution of online learning as the main focus of the webinar, she gave idea for identifying and implementing the proper tools and resources that fit the level of the learners and merge seamlessly with the lesson and course objectives. She highlighted the changing role of an ELT instructor who needs to very cautious in/his or her selection of digital language resources for incorporating the right approach to the new media and thus successfully developing the four skills of language (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in the learners. This session mainly explored some of the free and effective online tools that can be used effectively as a pedagogical device in language teaching classrooms, in order to expand the positive learning experiences of the students by encouraging autonomy and fostering the student-centered activity.By the end of the session, the participants joined in a discussion and shared their experiences of using technological tools in the classroom. Language teachers and researchers and from different disciplines participated in the workshop.
